An Introduction To The PUR Adhesive

Abstract: This article examines polyurethane (PUR) structural adhesives, analyzing their two-part composition, properties, foaming reaction cure, usages, and performance benefits compared to traditional adhesives. Selection factors are discussed.

Keywords: PUR adhesive, polyurethane adhesive, structural adhesive, foam adhesive, bonding

PUR adhesives are advanced two-part reactive adhesives that cure by expanding and hardening into a rigid, closed-cell foam plastic. The foam expansion allows the adhesive to thoroughly fill gaps while providing exceptional structural strength.

PUR is composed of two liquid precursor components - an isocyanate and a resin blend. Combining these initiates an irreversible chemical reaction causing rapid foaming and hardening into solid plastic as it cures. Heat is generated as the liquid transforms. The process permanently fuses materials and fills voids up to two inches wide.

Properties:

1. Strong structural bonds (2500-4000 PSI)

2. Fills large gaps while bonding

3. Withstands extreme temperatures (-40° to +212°F)

4. Resistant to water, chemicals

5. Bonds porous and non-porous materials

6. Low shrinkage; will not crack or mar finish

Applications:

1. Truck trailer floor bonding

2. Wind turbine blade bonding

3. Rail car manufacturing

4. Tank and piping insulation

5. Sandwich composite panels

6. Beam lamination

Conclusion:

For unparalleled structural bonding performance combined with void filling abilities, rely on GORVIA PUR adhesives. GORVIA’s foaming polyurethane technologies deliver advanced solutions where traditional adhesives fail. Contact our engineers to evaluate your bonding requirements.
